Even though his name is oft-cited among lists of major trance pioneers, it still kind of comes as a surprise whenever Paul Oakenfold starts showing his trance roots. With Come Together, on Oaken-focused sublabel Perfecto Fluoro, he demonstrates that he’s definitely still got it even after years of seeing Oakenfold tracks achieve mainstream runaway success in other genres (Starry-Eyed Surprise, anyone?)
Come Together is a no-nonsense uplifter with a dynamic bassline and a vocal sample that sets the pace of the track well, letting it segue cleanly into the main vocal melody of the break without seeming overdone. The break itself isn’t particularly flashy, either, but has a solid arp-driven melodic lead that hearkens strongly back to the early 2000s in a big way. Paul Oakenfold gives us a nice shot of nostalgia with this track.
