Marble Records head honcho Para One just dropped a stunning full-length on the label called Passion (partial album artwork above). The album marks the Frenchman’s first album release on Marble, and thus comes with a humongous wave of hype for lovers of the label’s forward-thinking style of production. The result? Well, to say that it sounds polished is an understatement. The sounds you hear on Passion are unlike any you’ve heard in EDM. Light, smooth, and futuristic, Para One has really outdone himself with this one.
One of my favorite songs on the album has got to be Every Little Thing with Irfane and Teki Latex. The vocals are just as smooth as you can get, while Para One creates a galaxy of subsonic synths and dancing delights. The song is so intricate and complex in its sound, yet so simple in design–certainly no easy task. On the edgier and more dancey side, you have Sigmund.Waves of high-tech riffs whiz past you in all directions while you dance over a sexy beat. If anyone asks you what “modern” techno sounds like at its finest, you can just go ahead and point them to this track. Finally, check out the garage jam The Talking Drums, a track I love for its “chromed out” grooves. These are just three fantastic picks off an even more fantastic, 12-track album that you can pick up here.
