26-year old Adi Balbus, aka Monsieur Adi, is a French fashion design student turned electronic music producer. Classically trained in piano, violin, and voice, his sound combines elements of electro, pop, and cinematic orchestration to create a unique and expansive sound. Often compared to the kings of the French electronic music scene, Daft Punk and Justice, Adi sites both as huge influences to his work alongside Icelandic singer Björk and Italian Baroque composer Anton Vivaldi.
Monsieur Adi’s newest release is a remix of the song Pompeii by London-based band Bastille, which just recently hit the top spot on the HypeM Popular Chart. It’s super smooth, catchy, and almost makes you forget there was an original to begin with. Adi strips the song down, keeping only a few specific vocal lines, and turns it into a soaring, majestic work of art. You is a slow, pounding piece of French electro-pop in a similar vein to Kavinsky. The dark and moody vocals of Aaron Alexis help this song smolder with raw emotion. My personal favorite is his incredible remix of Don Diablo’s M1 Stinger, a song that truly shows off his production skils. Adi creates a complex weave of strings atop a sultry guitar and chops the mesmerizing vocals to ensnare your senses.
