Having been a part of Anjunabeats since day one, Oliver Smith is second only to founders Above & Beyond as the longest serving veteran of the label. His latest release is the perfect example of how he has managed to remain right at the front of his game.
Evermore is classic Oliver Smith–built around a big catchy riff with a solid bassline and some stompy percussion, it’s exactly the sort of trance belter you’d expect the guy to be kicking out. But there’s also something very familiar about Evermore, from the synth sounds to the understated builds and drops, through to the production style in general. Put simply, it has that classic Anjuna sound about it. Of course, that sound was highly influenced by Oliver himself, as along with his then production partner Mark Pledger, he was one of the most prolific and defining producers of Anjunabeats’ early years. While times may have changed, it’s very satisfying to hear that influence behind a lot of modern-day trance, and it’s something Oliver Smith can be very proud of.
