At the age of 22, Ukrainian drum & bass producer NickBee is certainly one of the genre’s youngest rising talents. Already supported by the likes of Noisia, Bailey, The Upbeats, and BBC Radio 1xtra DJ Crissy Criss, to name a few, the fledgling producer turned many heads last year with his remix of Noisia & Joe Seven’s Hand Gestures. Now, the producer is upping the ante once again with a brand-new EP featuring two searing, neuro-infused tracks called Era and Dusk Valley. Out on the mighty Bad Taste Recordings, Era/Dusk Valley combines crisp production with teeth-grinding synthetics to form NickBee’s crowning achievement to date.
NickBee’s new EP kicks off with Era–a cinematic, yet hyper-aggressive D&B dust-up. The tune starts with a foreboding pad, eventually adventuring into even darker territory with sawing synth stabs and a throbbing bassline. Seeped in reverb, the track relentlessly pummels away with a distended snare, bull-dozing kick drum, and rattling shakers–all the ingredients necessary for a head-banging neuro-groove. The EP’s flip-side tune Dusk Valley brings more of the same dark vibes, beginning with a sweeping, alien-like pad and an arcane rhythmic sequence. It’s not long until the tune begins to boil with a growling lead, rolling 2-step break, and a multitude of cryptic effects. Make sure to pick up Dusk Valley and Era right here on Bad Taste Recordings.
