The London drum & bass duo known as Need For Mirrors have been terrorizing the masses with their brand of dark D&B over the past two years. Composed of members Joe Moses and Emilio Dimitri, Need For Mirrors has already graced such acclaimed labels as Hospital, Playaz, and SGN:LTD, and the duo’s heavy tune Lofar was a highlight of Goldie’s Fabriclive 58 mix from two years ago. Now, the duo makes another appearance on the mighty V Recordings with a dark and funky EP called Reset.
Reset is filled with the lurid vibes NFM fans have come to expect from the D&B duo, and this EP gets off to a quick start with the dark and soulful title track featuring vocalist/producer Edward Oberon. Packed with enough pummeling bass stabs to knock the moon out of phase, Reset’s rude bassline rides shotgun to Oberon’s sugary vocals, making for a funked-up, hardstepping workout. The next tune on the Reset EP is the rude VIP mix of Sea Slug–a minimalistic romp with a primal low-end and an unyielding groove. For a heavier sound, jump ahead to the imperiously addictive tune Sour Diesel. Cloaked in darkness, Sour Diesel spirals deep into the dark abyss with a shifty two-step rhythm, a pallid mid-bass, and a haunting snippet of Oberon’s inimitable voice.
