Although Moonbeam is not yet on the list of huge international EDM stars, the Russian duo has seen nothing but success in their established careers. Brothers Pavel and Vitaly Khavleev first collaborated as Moonbeam in 2003, and by 2005 had started their own music label – Moonbeam Digital. Their well-respected melodies and constant innovation have earned them plays by the world’s top DJs. Tiesto, Marcus Schulz, Cosmic Gate, and Rank 1 have all not only played Moonbeam tracks in clubs, but have featured the group on their signature compilations.
Their sound has always been on the dark side, but their latest EP, Distance, adds not only a brand new layer of depth, but also emotion to their already thought-provoking tunes. My favorite of the EP’s three tracks is The Underwater World. The name may sound cheesy, but just over a minute into the song you’ll see why it’s so fitting. The song sports a strange element of warped synths that I can’t put my finger on, but it’s as if I’m listening to my favorite progressive house song backwards (which is a good thing, trust me). If you like this track, feel free to checkout the official music video as well!
