The legendary Movement Electronic Music Festival has announced the first segment of its lineup for 2014. Held on Memorial Day weekend from May 24-26 in Detroit, Michigan, Movement is known for hosting some of the best talent in electronic music, including the original pioneers of house and techno as well as rising new artists ushering in fresh sounds.
Movement upholds this reputation with the first taste of this year’s lineup, which features big names including Carl Cox, Stacey Pullen, and Richie Hawtin, as well as more recent favorites such as Justin Martin, Tale of Us, and The Martinez Brothers. The festival maintains a dedication to representing its hometown–the city that defined house and techno as we know it–and there is so far a solid representation of Detroit talent on the bill this year. Among the glut of electronic music festivals in the United States, Movement stands out for its lack of overbearing commercial sponsorships, its diverse audience, and its impeccable selection of well-respected artists. It’s still over five months away, but we’re already anxious for the next round of announcements–especially the notorious afterparties.
