Releases from Above & Beyond’s Anjunadeep, the deeper and more proggy equivalent to their more well-known Anjunabeats label, usually have to work a little harder for me to hold them to the same regards that I do Anjunabeats tracks. That being said, this more left-field Anjunadeep release had me mesmerized from the first note. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Fracture by Norwegian producer Boom Jinx and Washington, DC-based Andrew Bayer.
As I said before, the releases on Anjunadeep tend to lean more toward the progressive side of things. This track, however, while probably still technically classified as prog house, introduces some new sounds to the genre that make you think wonder if another subgenre might be crawling its way out of the EDM polygenre primordial soup that seems to be growing larger every day. Electro and tech sounds immediately start off the track and wander into an increasingly large reverb area that takes you up into the far reaches of sonic soundscapes and then drops you down into a monster of a drop at 2:00. Fracture thrives in its simplicity–it’s what makes it playable across a wide variety of sets, especially those that straddle the lines between genres. A new day of complete genre integration is arising… and I like it.
