It’s been six months since we’ve heard anything from Estonian complextro sensation Mord Fustang. After the release of his previous EP, I heard more than a few rumblings that it was just “more of the same.” As great as Lick the Rainbow and Super Meat Freeze and the rest are, too much of the same thing is a bad thing. Perhaps he was listening, because his newest release, Champloo, is a different kind of beast, and it’s awesome.
Champloo is a dirty, bass-heavy glitch hop tune that bares strong comparison to KOAN Sound; it’s a complete 180 for Mr. Fustang that shows his desire to expand upon his original style. This is a great example of a maturing artist; the track should please old fans and win over some new ones as well. The old Mord isn’t completely dead however–in between the breaks, wobbles and glitches his signature melodies and uplifting synth work are still there. Pick up Champloo on Beatport now.
