Welcome back to the real world. This weekend saw new tunes from Mat Zo and David Guetta, changes at Beatport, the return of Paris Hilton’s music career, and more. Enjoy.

Alive Remixes En Route

Alive Remixes
This weekend brought first listens of two new remixes of Empire Of The Sun’s Alive, with cuts from David Guetta and Mat Zo rounding out the four-track EP. Fans will unfortunately have to wait an extra week for the complete package, featuring takes from Zedd and M4SONIC.

Zedd’s punchy electro house remix was slated to hit digital shelves May 21, but will now see an official release alongside Zo’s smoother, more progressive take, Guetta’s recently premiered version, and M4SONIC’s mix May 28. All tracks are currently available for streaming via SoundCloud.

Trap Gets The Nod From Beatport

Beatport added trap to their collection of genres May 16, affording the style recognition from the popular e-commerce site and all the perks that brings, like a dedicated page, charts, and staff picks. Fans now have a dedicated place for all things trap on Beatport, and not-so-fans can enjoy their other genres unadulterated by force-categorized trap tunes. While some felt that the move was long overdue…

… others expressed concerns with the decision…

… and some asked Beatport to show love for other genres.

Surgery delays new Crystal Method album

The Crystal Method

LA-based duo The Crystal Method has been forced to delay the release of their fifth studio album and cancel a string of shows due to health issues with member Scott Kirkland.

The duo made an announcement via their Facebook page May 16 that their self-titled record will be postponed to a later date, and the tour they had scheduled would have to be cancelled until Scott Kirkland could recover from a recent operation.

“Many months ago I started experiencing short, but painful headaches. Thinking they were related to too many flights (or one too many flights of tequila), I didn’t think too much about it, but during my annual checkup I mentioned the headaches to my doctor. She recommended a brain MRI. Scary, but No big deal, right???”

Well, yes and no. The MRI revealed a benign cyst, which normally would be simply monitored by future MRIs, but given Kirkland’s extremely active stage presence, doctors recommended surgery. Thankfully the operation was a success, and Kirkland is currently recovering at home in LA. Kirkland will be back in the studio shortly provided he gets the OK from his doctor, and the team is already working on booking a new round of shows later this year.

Ibiza Is Getting Hawter

Paris Hilton DJ
Hollywood heiress and socialite Paris Hilton is currently working on her second album and has scored herself a residency in Ibiza, Spain this summer.

Showbiz 411 reports running into Miss Hilton during the Cannes Film Festival and chatting about her recent time in the studio working on a forthcoming LP on Cash Money Records.

“This is a lot different than my first album… It’s really going to be house music.”

Reportedly, the album will feature collaborations with names like Lil Wayne and is being produced by none other than Afrojack. No details so far on her Ibiza residency or a specific release date.
