Just days after he debuted his new stage setup at Governor’s Ball New York, deadmau5 and his mau5trap label have released the fourth edition of their We Are Friends compilation.
The comp features a diverse blend of dance music–mostly progressive house and techno but with a few surprises thrown in–from producers both old and new. Starting off the action is rising producer ATTLAS, who continues to prove why he is one of the top acts in the game with the dark and atmospheric Boxed.
Newcomer BlackGummy does his best Feed Me impression with the snarling, gnarling Lullaby, while Draft drops the glitch-heavy halfstep If.
mau5trap veteran Enzo Bennet proves he is a Maestro with his latest melodic musical; Matt Lange gets dark and dastardly on the Drumcode-esque Nice Shades, Wesley; Monstergetdown keeps the heavy underground vibes flowing on Extinktion.
Canadian up-and-comer Rezz, called the “female Gesaffelstein” by some, lives up to the name with the dangeroud midtempo bomb Serenity. Closing out the compilation is Wax Motif’s festival-ready anthem, Let Go, an ecstatic end to a very solid set of tracks.
