Matt Lange truly impressed me in 2011 with tracks like Bad Year Blimp and his remix of Counting The Points by fellow Berklee alumnus Andrew Bayer. He’s one of the few producers out there who can also sing on his own productions, and he’s got some new vocal releases out now on Anjunadeep.
Matt Lange made a stop at Griffith Park on his recent trip to LA and subsequently decided to name his new tune after it. The track runs smooth with polished beats, acoustic guitar melodies, and a vocal that you can tell he poured his soul into. For the second tune on the release, Avalon, Matt implemented a dubsteppy breakdown amidst somewhat existential lyrics. Contrary to my initial assumption, Avalon is actually not named after the nightclub in LA but after a piece of equipment he owns called the Avalon vt737sp Channel Strip.
There’s one more tune I’d like to share that Matt Lange considers one of most important things he’s ever written in the past few years. He expressed to me that these tunes are the most truthful to himself and offer a glimpse into the direction he’s taking his music. That being said, let’s check out his unexpected glitch hop remix of Under The Sun by Redanka & Quivver. There is a superb level of production quality to every swoop of the bassline.
