The Knocks‘ Collect My Love is one of the best pieces of disco released since polyester went out, and four friends of the Brooklyn duo break out their remixes in the newly released EP: Mat Zo (pictured), The Golden Boy, Lenno, and Leon Lour.
The Knocks’ original, if you haven’t heard it, begs a listen before we proceed. Alex Newell, originally of Glee fame and most recently featured in Blonde’s massive hit All Cried Out, takes absolute charge of the glittering disco ditty from square one and goes on to complete what is now a defining song for both acts.
Now reimagined four ways, Collect My Love gets its first treatment from LT3 favorite Mat Zo, who collides with The Knocks once again after their collab Get Down 2 Get Up. Zo’s remix opens up the package with an arguably necessary, however quintessential Zo intro that sets the tone before his dynamic production unfolds. The tune is reimagined with his brand of bright, punchy electro house infused into disco and dotted on all sides with extra details–agile and lush, it’s Zo in the zone.
The Golden Boy follows up, penning a pure piano house take that cradles Newell’s stunning voice much in the way that Blonde’s did, which we know produces wonderful results.
Next up is the collection’s most mellowed-out flip in the funky nu disco number from Lenno, followed by the package’s sleeper item and surprise favorite: Leon Lour’s beautiful Balearic daydream. For all the power behind the voice of Newell coupled with the disco explosion found in The Knocks’ original drop, Leon Lour’s restrained remix with its soft synth melody and gentle releases walks away having dealt the most feels.
