Alright. I might as well get this out of the way now–I’m a sucker for vocal narratives in house tracks. Sydney Blu’s Senses of the Mind is a great example. In the case of this track by the Cocodrills (fun name, don’t you think?), the narrative is about an experience that many people hold near and dear to their hearts. I wont spoil the surprise–dont worry. However, I will say that I am a big fan of how the narrative was used in this song. Certain words achieve the effect of cliffhangers, a powerful and almost teasing technique, making you beg for more. These instances are followed up with drops, which alleviate the tension quite nicely. Finally, this track proves that when you come up with a really sweet beat; you dont need to make too many alterations to keep the energy flowin’.
Cocodrills consists of members Adam Cruz and Christian “Pridef” Diaz. With future releases due on Yoshitoshi Records, Nervous Records, and Spinnin Records, this Miami-influenced duo is definitely worth keeping an eye on. If you happen to be in Miami, they’re actually spinning this weekend at Nikki Beach.
