Veteran trance producer Marcel Woods is not a fan of subtletly. His sound can generally best be described as trance, but it is surely trance on steroids, full of high energy and engulfing synths. Given the current state of trance, Marcel’s sound is not only a viable contender in the genre, but also prime target for some enormous remixes.
First up, we have the recent remixes of Marcel’s career-defining hit of 2006, Advanced. Tiësto’s take is perhaps the first track I have ever heard that I could describe as “wobble trance”–and you’ll see what I mean when you press play. Enormous drops full of oscillating synths make this track an instant standout in any set, whether electro, trance, or tech. Marco V, on the other hand, is a techier, almost crazed-sounding rework, and will prove to be an excellent “bridge” track between the genres of progressive and trance. Finally we come to Jacob van Hage’s remix of De Bom, where tribal beats meet with a suspense-ridden buildup, finally dropping into absolute madness at 2:30.
