Major Lazer shares two new tunes: an original production called Weedman that they revealed on their FXX cartoon series, and a remix for Belgian singer/rapper Stromae.
If you have not been keeping up with Major Lazer’s cartoon sensation, you better get on it or you’ll miss little tune releases from the group like Weedman. Premiered in the first episode of the show, the tune is a low-slung trap infusion centered around one of the show’s sinister antagonists, The Weed Man. It’s only a minute long, but features the vocals of Trinidad James, whose own weed shenanigans are well publicized.
To keep the hype high leading into their anticipated album release later this summer, the group has also shared a remix of Stromae’s track Ave Cesaria. Centering in on their moombahton roots, this remix does a quick dive into a sub-bass growl before adding in some traditional sirens for effect. The swing elements of Stromae’s original are left intact, but most of the original chorus has been swapped out in favor of the bouncing moombahton rhythm.
