Major Lazer Cartoon To Air In 2015 Along With New Album

The FOX Animation Domination lineup is about to add another new program to Sunday night schedule, and it features none other than Major Lazer. In his new cover story for Billboard, Diplo revealed plans for the new cartoon series along with details about an upcoming Major Lazer album.

You’ve probably seen Diplo’s gritty gladiator on Major Lazer’s album covers or at one of their shows. He usually appears in the form of an inflatable giant or is projected into the group’s digital visuals. The recently revived “Rasta superhero” actually made his animated debut in 2011, when Adult Swim featured a 15-minute short from Major Lazer. The bit was supposed to lead to a full series, but Cartoon Network ultimately scrapped the project.

According to Diplo, the series will be accompanied by new music for the show, as well as a brand new album. Diplo revealed that the show will feature original music with collaborations from artists like RiFF RAFF and Cat Power. Madonna, Skrillex, Lorde, Usher, and Ty Dolla $ign
are some of the artists Diplo has teamed up with for the 30 new tracks reportedly in the works for the new Major Lazer album.

The new album and animated series are currently slated for a Fall 2015 release.
