Magnus has made a name for himself on the psy-trance scene over the past few years, and now one of his biggest tracks has recived a remix courtesy of York-based producer Activa. Originally released in 2012, Velvet is high energy psy-trance at its finest, so Activa certainly has a lot to live up to.
From the off, it’s clear that Activa was keen to keep the spirit of the original well and truly alive, with some big atmospheric sounds quickly being joined by a solid psy-trance kick and deep rolling bassline. A lot of Magnus’ tracks are all about building energy with simple little ideas and riffs, Velvet epitomising this style of production. Again, Activa has been careful to stick to this mantra, with the dancing arpeggios and vocal stutters still at the forefront of the track. As is often the case with this style of trance, there’s no massive break and huge drop, instead ideas move in and out, providing something of a musical journey as the track progresses. One thing is for certain: Activa has certainly done a grand job, cementing his position as one of the most respected names in trance.
