Maceo Plex - Solar Detroit (Original Mix) [Ellum]

Maceo Plex is gearing up for the release of Solar, the follow-up LP to his 2011 album Life Index, and in the meantime, he’s delivered a two-track taste of what’s to come with the aptly named Solar Sampler EP.

A-side Wash Away My Tears is a lush and emotive trek through robotic heartbreak as dreamy synths and poignant melodies tug at your soul. Clocking in at 118 BPM, it’s a slow-burning single made for the starlit sky of Black Rock City. On the flip-side is Solar Detroit, a dark and dramatic journey that builds up around a spacey atmosphere before exploding with cosmic synth stabs, rumbling bass, and MP’s signature percussion.

Maceo had this to say about the EP:

“This release is some music taken from my upcoming album Solar, named after our newborn baby of the same name. It is due out in October. ‘Wash Away My Tears (12 inch mix)’ is a more DJ friendly version of the original on the album. ‘Solar Detroit’ was written when I took little baby Solar to Detroit in May.”

Solar Sampler is available on Beatport here via Maceo’s own Ellum label. The Solar LP will be released in October.
