It’s crazy to see how far Skrillex has come in a matter of a year and a half. It was pretty much this time last year that the youngster announced his arrival on Deadmau5’s mau5trap label. Now he has his own label, OWSLA, that is hosting some of EDM’s brightest stars on the horizon. With an almighty and thrashing EP from Porter Robinson under the label’s belt, it seems like OWSLA is merely setting their pace as this week the label featured their first release from The M Machine, an electro group freshly out of San Francisco. If you recognize The M Machine (or their former name Metropolis), their early appearance on OWSLA should come as no surprise as their preview video created some of the biggest buzz the EDM world saw in 2011.
The EP itself is spucking fectacular, featuring two originals from the up-and-coming group. The first side of the release is titled Promise Me a Rose Garden, which steps into the spotlight with a worn, yet embracing ’30s vocal vibe. The track eventually drops into what The M Machine was originally known for: witty and unforgiving electro, assembling a song that in its entirety really is the total package. The other side of the release is Glow a chilled out track that makes a bold statement about this group’s ability to step outside of the ~128bpm standard that is central to their genre. Lastly, check out Trafalgar, their first tune that was released for free over the summer. Grab the download on their Facebook page, and share some M Machine <3 with your friends!
