British producer Andy Smith, or Lxury, is a name you may or may not have heard, but his sound is one that you won’t soon forget. A rising name in the British house scene, Smith recently released his debut EP in Playground, along with the brilliant new track Company.
If Lxury’s hypnotic dance melodies remind you of DJ duo Disclosure, it’s probably because all three artists went to university together before launching into their respective careers as prominent producers. Smith was originally signed with Disclosure’s label Method Records until recently switching over to Greco-Roman to release his Playground EP.
Company is a glowing new dance number from the producer filled with mercurial synth progressions that sail over an elusive, shifting beat. According to Smith, Company was written immediately after he wrote his 2013 smash J.A.W.S. (a track Smith produced with Disclosure). The playful nature on Company and the Playground EP is a mystery even to Smith, who said that he “…wrote most of that music in a dark room under a motorway. I can’t remember feeling particularly childish, [Playground] should probably sound more like how a lack of vitamin D would sound.”
Lxury’s Playground EP is out now and available to download on Beatport here.
