Insomniac’s second annual White Wonderland convened New Year’s Eve for an unforgettable celebration at the enormous Anaheim Convention Center. Twice the size of last year’s party, this evening rallied SoCal’s most passionate house and trance fans who all showed off their spirit by wearing their sleekest and sexiest white outfits. Tickets this time around sold for a pretty penny, but considering the enormous size of the venue, the the decorations, and the EDM world’s biggest A-list talent, rest assured it was all very well worth the price.
The Dutch kicked things off at the house stage, starting with Dannic and Hardwell. Dannic let loose some of his recent remixes including the ones for Like Home by Nicky Romero and Nervo and Must Be The Love by Arty, Nadia Ali, and BT. Later came on his friend and Revealed Recordings compadre Hardwell, whose expert mixing and selection had everyone bouncing, particularly when he played Chuckie’s Make Some Noise and Make The Crowd GO by Alvaro.
Avicii began with a trip down melody lane with tracks like his new collaboration with Nicky Romero, I Could Be The One, and a new vocal ID track as flexible ladies hung from the ceiling. Later he escalated into bangers like Albin Myers’ Hells Bells and finished off with Levels, a track that certainly only he can play these days. Madeon was a crowd favorite with his surprisingly hard set–at one point even dropped trap with Masta Blasta by Dillon Francis. Although there was a few-minute pause before Bingo Players’ set, these electro heavyweights made it on time for the countdown and had everyone exploding off their toes. Sebastian Ingrosso ended the night with a spectacular laser show, showcasing uplifting anthems like Reload and Don’t You Worry Child.
If there’s one sure way to get everyone to come early and pile into the venue, it’s by booking Dash Berlin to open up the trance stage! The diehards that came were awarded with thousands of glowing, branded Dash Berlin light sticks. Next came a two hour set by the legendary Ferry Corsten who played plenty of his classics as well as recent hits like Loops & Tings with Markus Schulz, Live Forever with Aruna, and his One Thousand Suns collab with Chicane. Tritonal rung in the new year on the trance stage; their mixing was on point and they debuted plenty of new tracks that we hope to hear more about soon. Lastly, Above & Beyond had an epic opening that began with Small Moments (free download here), soared with On My Way To Heaven, and had everyone singing along to Sun & Moon. One especially joyful moment was when they typed out the name of their new track, Walter White, the main character of the hit TV show Breaking Bad (See Video Below).
