Vanguard in Hollywood was the place to be in SoCal for those looking to ring in the New Year with a few of the scene’s most uplifting artists. The formidable Hollywood nightclub teamed up with Agency, the upper level of the club, to bring Hollywood an exclusive night of house music featuring Thomas Gold, EDX, and DJ Vice.
When I first set foot in Vanguard, I was impressed with the layout and intimate feel the club had. With dancers on catwalks and dangling from the ceiling, it’s fair to say that Hollywood has received its own rendition of popular Las Vegas Nightclub Marquee. The night’s first act, DJ Vice (pictured above), took to the stage around 10:30 and warmed up the crowd with popular tunes like Bassjackers and Ralvero’s Bang Like A and RL Grime’s trap rework of Afrojack, Trap On Acid. As the night approached midnight and the 60-second countdown dominated the extravagant LED screens, Alesso’s Years gracefully blasted through the speakers as each individual was welcomed into the New Year with one of 2012’s most emotional productions.
Thomas Gold (pictured above) blessed the decks at 12:30 with an incredible three-hour set as he kicked off part 2 of his North American Fanfare Tour. The energy in the room was electric once Gold finally took the stage. Gold’s euphoric, uplifting set was highlighted by his newest progressive monster MIAO and his remix of Miike Snow’s The Wave. If you weren’t up to partying with Thomas Gold for three hours, one could have ventured upstairs to Agency and witnessed another uplifting set from the likes of Swiss phenom EDX (pictured below).
As Gold took control of the decks in the main room of Vanguard, EDX graced those upstairs in Agency. For those upstairs, it was almost like a meet and greet with EDX. The crowd was only a few feet from the DJ booth, which created this almost surreal vibe in the dimly lit room. His set was highlighted with the beautiful sounds of 2 Hearts 1 Mind, his newest production featuring the vocals of Tamra Keenan, and Give It Up For Love with John Williams on vocals. EDX’s intimate set topped off a memorable New Year’s Eve party, with Vanguard setting the standard for premium nightlife in Hollywood.
