One thing you an always count on is Insomniac pushing the envelope with new attractions, bigger stages, and the latest and greatest talent. Amassing 45,000 people for their first ever Halloween themed event this past Saturday, the creepy festival known as Escape From Wonderland came complete with two haunted houses, carnival rides, and wandering performers in terrifying costumes. Insomniac truly spared no details, with loads of haunting decorations and top quality lighting and laser effects.
Steve Angello’s Size Records erected an enormous mainstage on the grounds at San Bernardino’s NOS Events Center. The Size logo was immediately visible on the LCD screens, and the stage hosted a terrific roster of DJs, including Benny Benassi, who rocked a Superman costume during his set. Over at the next tent came Nick van de Wall aka Afrojack, with an intense set that featured loads of that bouncy Dirty Dutch sound, including a sick mashup of his tune No Beef with Calvin Harris’s Feel So Close (video below). He also dropped tunes tunes from his personal label Wall Recordings, like Sending My Love by R3hab and Swanky Tunes.
Darkening the vibe to match the occasion, Markus Schulz finished off the frightful night with his unique breed of aggressive tech trance. Unleashing pure havoc, he delivered skull-crackers like Slap My Pitch Up by Sander van Doorn, his big room reconstruction of Rex Mundi and Phynn’s Opera of Northern Ocean, and his latest unreleased monster tune Digital Madness. Markus ended the event-closing set at 2AM with his classic Daydream.
