2012 was a big year for Moguai; the German producer not only completed an arduous touring schedule that took him from the US to Japan and everywhere in-between, but he also released his first full-length album, Mpire, on deadmau5’s label Mau5trap. Other highlights of his 2012 include 7 shows in 5 days during Miami Music Week, a debut on BBC Radio 1’s revered Essential Mix, an appearance at Sensation Germany, and the growth of his PUNX UP THE VOLUME radio show.
Moguai is kicking off the New Year with a North American tour and his second stop brought him to Hollywood’s gorgeous LURE nightclub this past Thursday. As expected, he played fan favorites such as Optinuum, Lyme and Mpire to much of the crowd’s enjoyment while also mixing in tracks like Albin Myers’ raw, saw-driven Hells Bells, Zombie Nation’s 1999 classic Kernkraft 400 and Axwell and Dirty South’s remix of The Temper Trap’s Sweet Disposition. His set was unique and diverse, showcasing original music alongside popular big-room tracks and old-school classics.
As we’ve come to expect from LURE, the production elements of the venue that night made for a wonderfully surreal experience. At one point, a bottle service client was delivered his birthday cake and birthday champagne by a scantily-clad girl wearing large angel wings dancing on a platform that was hoisted above the crowd by a dozen security staff members. Needless to say, my night at LURE was quite memorable, and 2013 looks to a bright one for Moguai. Be sure to catch Moguai this month at a city near you.
