Last night Rusko returned to his current residence in LA for an exclusive HARD event with UK DJ Doorly and HARD head honcho Destructo. The event marked the homecoming date of Rusko’s North American tour, and boy did they set things off with a bang. In just a few short years Rusko has steadily risen as the vanguard of the dubstep seen in the states, and his most recent shows are a testament to his achievement and status in the scene. Both Doorly and Destructo put on sick opening sets, playing a wide variety of house, dub, dnb, and even peripheral genres like jungle and trip hop. But, the highlight of the night was of course the headliner.
Rusko put on one of the most impressive dubstep sets I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing. He played a great selection of unheard tunes and interwove them with all his hits, including Woo Boost, Cockney Thug, the Sub Focus remix of Hold On, and the appropriately played Da Cali Anthem. Needless to say, the crowd was going absolutely bonkers. Between the booming bass, oubbly synth lines, and grandiose setting of the Wiltern Theatre, the place was getting all kinds of wrecked. From beginning to end, hordes of dirty electro and dub fans raged nonstop to Rusko’s onslaught. But, the one part of the show that stood out above all else was his encore. As the crowd chanted his name, Rusko came back out on stage for one last song–with special guest and legendary rap group Cypress Hill. All in all, the event will stand out in my mind as a bar setting performance for others to follow. And the best part? That’s just the tip of the iceberg for dubstep in America. Check out the video below to see the guest performance. <3
