Atlanta-based bass demon Le Castle Vania links up with LA’s relative newcomer Lumberjvck for the fearsome four-track You Know My Name EP, available now as a free download.
The cross-country collab brings together the rising trap star Lumberjvck, whose ruthless beats dating back little more than a year have found a home at such similarly promising imprints as Kannibalen, and LCV, whose catalog including such illustrious labels as mau5trap needs little exhibition. Together, Le Castle and Lumberjvck inflict pain by leaving their own comfort zones of–mostly–electro house and trap, respectively, and show off their versatility with visceral exercises in adjacent and, at times, familiar sounds of dubstep, breaks, and electro-moombahton.
They break skin with the title track, a punishing and relentless bit of brostep that, while impressive today, would make 2012 its bitch in exchange for a bag of chips.
Our unholy alliance continue their tour of the tougher textures of bass music with Numba One, a limber 110 electrohton cut sporting a funky glitch hop breakdown.
The hands-down highlight of the EP for me is the hilarious Ham Sandwich, a blend of more 110 bass with a finely tuned breakbeat flip-out halfway through, all blessed with a sidesplitting sample in the same league as the infinite LOLs available in Kill The Noise’s Thumbs Up.
Not without their sensitive sides, our two bass music loonies lay off their giddy beatdown long enough for an emotive, melodic send-off featuring the vocals of Mariana Bell–beautiful.
