You have to respect a producer with a sense of artistic direction, and Detroit-based DJ Freddy Todd is just that. His new remix of +verb’s track JerkOFF is a banger, to say the least, and Hustle Buster currently tops my list of favorite tracks. Freddy Todd finds a middle-ground between NastyNasty and Nit Grit, and with tags on his SoundCloud page ranging from such eclectic categories as “Kaleidoscopic Faceplants//Lazercrunk Soul” to “Splat-Hop/Dubstep/Crunkstomp/Epic-Slime,” one can only conjure up shot-in-the-dark stabs at what Freddy Todd’s music is all about.
I can’t hype this guy enough, but his music speaks for itself. By the one-minute mark of Hustle Buster, you won’t just be on the edge of your seat, but dancing on top of it, encouraging the other patrons of your once-peaceful public library to join you in dancing your face off to the epic-laser sliminess of Freddy Todd—and they will. I foresee Freddy Todd being at the root of a new subgenre of electronic music, heavy with deep bass and spectacular orchestrations of grimy laser sounds, but don’t take my word for it; check it out for your self.
