It was their combined efforts on the soundtrack for the film Berlin Calling that convinced me brothers Paul and Fritz Kalkbrenner were poised for success in the music industry. Just recently it was Fritz who showed his prowess with his 2-sided release titled Wes. The title track gives listeners some disco-infused prog house that’s best heard loud, but I found the real gem to be on the flip side which reveals an incredibly warm, pavilion-ready summer jam titled Layer Cake. It’s releases like this that continue to show me that although Avicii’s got a stronghold on the world of uplifting summer house, he isn’t the only one who can do it right!
This release can be found on Suol Records, alongside many other Kalkbrenner tracks. All too fitting as both tracks in this release are chock full of it (Suol, that is).
