Lana Del Rey knows how to go after the electronic demographic. She also knows how to team up with the right producers. Del Rey’s 2013 release of Summertime Sadness, remixed by French producer Cedric Gervais, played non-stop on radio stations across the country and currently has over 44 million views on YouTube. Not too shabby.
The new remix of her track West Coast has the potential to be even bigger.
With over two decades of production experience, Marc “MK” Kinchen was an ideal choice to take on the latest West Coast remix. Kinchen, who has been favoring tracks from the female indie pop spectrum over the last year, has remixed songs from breakout acts like Sky Ferreira and Haim was well as Lana’s belated Born To Die single Blue Jeans.
For West Coast, MK kicks off with precision electro riffs, followed by Del Rey’s echoing vocals that drift in and out of the melody. The veteran producer then takes the track on a bursting trip up and down the coast of electronic motion, alternating between fast-paced, fluctuating beats and cool, breezy releases of sonic serenity.
West Coast comes off of Lana Del Rey’s forthcoming LP Ultraviolence, out June 17 via Polydor/Interscope.
