While trance as a genre goes through fits and starts of growth and divergence, Unearthed Records holds true to its uplifting trance roots fairly consistently. I’m glad for it, because as much as uplifting tracks can fall to the same risks of sounding trite and cookie-cutter as any trance subgenre, the familiar sounds of a good euphoric build and break feels a bit like coming home.
My Little Kingdom from Russian producer The Airstatic pays court to the kingdom of remaining uplifting diehards. The original mix is a solid melodic track graced by a beautiful little break. The Ex-Driver remix is decent but doesn’t elaborate much on the original. The standout in this release is Matt Bukovski’s remix. Its driving, fast-paced build and melodic break are nothing new, but it holds all of the elements of a track masterfully structured as a classic-sounding uplifter, distilling the melodies of the original and underscoring all of the strong points. While My Little Kingdom may be hearkening back a few years in style, it’s a good nod to the sounds that made thousands of people into tranceheads in the first place.
