This past weekend, Phange and I were lucky enough to see the king of US vocal house, Kaskade, at The Marquee in Las Vegas. That’s right; we were at the hottest club in Vegas, seeing one of the hottest DJ’s spin an amazing set of big-room, euphoric house music. After a summer of headlining the mega-successful Identity Festival, Kaskade returned to his residency at The Marquee, Vegas’ premier venue for EDM which boasts such regular talent as Chuckie, Above & Beyond, and Avicii. The club is quite the spectacle in itself–a multi-level room lavished with regal decorations, flowing white curtains, dapper tapestries, and oh yeah, tons and tons of lights. Outside on the deck was something you’d see on a CSI: Las Vegas episode: A lit pool surrounded by gorgeous cabanas, black jack tables, and bars. And did I mention the clientele? I’ve never seen more beautiful, scantily clad women in one place; even the black jack dealers were wearing lingerie!
As amazing as the club was, the music was even better. To our surprise, Mind Electric was on the decks, opening the night with his brand of electro-ey vocal house. He definitely did a great job of hyping up the crowd for the main attraction. Kaskade opened up with dreamy new single, Eyes and from there on out it was blissful madness. Drop after drop, banger after banger, Kaskade had the crowd in the palm of his hand. People were going nuts on the dance floor and the balconies; there were even some people diving into the pool! Every time he dropped a recognizable lyric or beat, an unsurpassed energy erupted from the crowd. Kaskade’s ability to include his own work into his edits of other people’s tracks is what gives him his edge on the dancefloor. A prime example would be the moment he dropped his mashup of Angel On My Shoulder with Zero 76. A brilliant mashup with bone-shattering results.
Kaskade’s success as a producer and a DJ are highlighted by his residency at The Marque–a deserving residency for someone as iconic as him in the EDM world. If you get a chance to see him at The Marquee before the year is over, take my advice and go! For more Kaskade goodness, be sure to check out the playlist I put together!
