Josh Butler (pictured) takes a snapshot of house music and the culture built up around it in his track Essence Of House, which samples the vocals of Chicago lifestyle icon Lono Brazil.
Lono Brazil is known for his major contribution to the music industry, and his longstanding friendship with the late Frankie Knuckles. Premiering first on Pete Tong’s Radio 1 show, the track centers around Brazil’s storytelling of his own experiences with house music. It’s a sampling that Brazil recorded exclusively for Butler, which details house music back when it was just blossoming. Butler favors a traditional four-on-the-floor beat to serve as an ode to that burgeoning era, while keeping Brazil’s vocal clip as the focus.
Josh Butler will drop his entire The Essence of House EP on Aug. 25 via Noir, you can listen to more of his tracks at his SoundCloud here.
