Finland’s Joonas Hahmo is very much the self-sufficient producer, releasing a steady stream of tracks on his home-brewed Hahmo Recordings. It’s a tactic that’s working, as his latest track Gold Rush is seeing strong support from big name DJs, including several plays on Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy Radio.
Gold Rush is the classic Hahmo sound: A mix of old-school house and uplifting trance that looks odd on paper, but is insanely catchy and makes perfect sense when you hear it. While it would make sense to say Gold Rush has a “big room” feel about it, the reality is that Joonas has been making music in this style for years–long before “big room” was even a term. Indeed, the track has the feel of his early releases, notably Tampere By Night.
Backed up by B-side The Break Up–a little more trancey but with the piano riffs still in full attendance–the Gold Rush EP is out now as a Beatport Exclusive.
