When it comes to collaboration, you need people who’ve got things in common–veterans John O’Callaghan (pictured) and duo Full Tilt certainly fit the bill. Aside from the fact that they all hail from Ireland, both have a solid track record of producing well-written trance music. They’ve also crossed paths before, with Full Tilt remixing O’Callaghan’s Take It All Away and Ride The Wave, and John returning the favour with a remix of Full Tilt’s Surrender. The next logical step was to create an original together.
That track comes in the form of Breathe and features vocals from Karen Kelly-–the result is a musical journey with a few surprises in store. The deep and brooding intro with its dark bass sounds and vocal chops hints at progressive trance. When it then drops into a massive atmospheric break, we’re treated to a full hands-in-the-air build, complete with big distant pads, moody plucks, epic synths, and most importantly a soaring and beautiful vocal. But as the synth stabs become more prominent and the straight groove kicks in, it becomes clear this isn’t what you might have expected. The drop bounces into an all out, electro style crowd pleaser, a world away from the break.
Breathe is a great example of how you can please a wide range of audiences with one track. Out now on Captivating Sounds as a Beatport exclusive, it’s already doing serious damage in clubs across the planet and is climbing the charts as a result.
