Above & Beyond Navigate Jean-Michel Jarre’s ‘Zero Gravity’
Jean Michel-Jarre & Tangerine Dream - Zero Gravity (Original Mix) [Music Affair Entertainment Ltd]
Jean Michel-Jarre & Tangerine Dream - Zero Gravity (Above & Beyond Remix) [Music Affair Entertainment Ltd]

Veteran French electro producer Jean-Michel Jarre will release collaborations with Robert Del Naja, aka 3D (of Massive Attack), Tangerine Dream, and Gesaffelstein June 19. UK trance masters Above & Beyond (pictured) join in with a remix of Zero Gravity–Jarre’s collaboration with Tangerine Dream’s founding member Edgar Frooese–and yield a breezy, fanciful result.

What the original lacks in a dance-ready bassline it makes up for with a majestic aural soundscape. A lone synth dominates the top line of the melody, weaving its way through a collection of sounds to create artful themes and variations in endless space. The remix adds a funky bottom end that gives the intricately weaving synths a base from which to spring forth vibrantly. The post-disco-inspired original now feels as if it’s headed both back to disco, but also atmospheric enough at points to rest squarely in the realm of Above & Beyond’s progressive trance expectation, too.

Pre-order one of the 1000 limited-edition vinyl EPs featuring both the original and Above & Beyond’s remix here.
