It’s almost hard these days to keep up with the amount of releases by Monsieur Adi, but if you’re like me you’re not complaining. I could spend all day waxing poetic on Adi’s incredible originals and remixes in 2013 (the music is that good), but it’s much easier to just let the music do the talking, so press play and read some of my musings below.
What’s Going On is signature Adi–big, bad, and baroque. Featuring the soaring vocals of 18-year-old A*M*E (keep an eye out for her), the track weaves around classical influences and a magnificent sample of Soul II Soul’s 1989 hit, Back II Life, with the end result being a feel-good dance diva hit. His remix of Beyoncé’s Grown Woman had me singing “I’m a grown woman, I can do whatever I want”, and I’m a 25-year-old man! Without detracting from the original, Adi channels his inner Queen B and ramps it up a notch, adding his signature stomping synths, a humming bassline, and gorgeous strings. Last but certainly not least, is a remix of Mikky Ekko’s new single, Kids. Bright, nostalgic synths and a retro kick transport you to a childish memory, replete with sunshine, ice cream, and everything else that made being a kid so much fun. It’s epic, it’s vivd, and it’s yet another incredible production from the prominent Parisian producer. I’m probably beating a dead horse by now, but seriously, go check out his SoundCloud, it’s awesome.
