While speaking to The Fader, Jamie xx revealed that he’s nearly completed his debut solo album–a record three years in the making. Having already released singles Girl and All Under One Roof Raving, the producer stated that most of the production work for the album is finished, but some of the tracks still need vocals–something that Jamie xx doesn’t really pay attention to anyway.
There’s one track where I need to get the vocal on, but I don’t know who the vocalist is going to be yet.
I never really listen to lyrics, but I can understand [them] a little bit more when it’s spoken word rather than singing. It gets to my head a bit quicker.
As he continues to audition slam poets for his solo material, Jamie xx also confirmed that The xx already have a number of unfinished tracks ready to be completed. The trio’s beat maker revealed his excitement for the band’s new album, describing the recording process as “freer” than The xx’ 2012 sophomore effort Coexist.
We’ve got quite a lot of songs that are not finished, but I’m excited about it. It feels a lot more free than when we were making the last record.
