Jamie xx, also known as Jamie Smith from British indie rock band The xx, just dropped a stunning Essential Mix. The mix, beautifully crafted, features two hours of seamless transitioning between future bass, house, hip hop, dubstep and more. It’s enough to make you weak at the knees. If you know me, then you know that I’m a huge fan of BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix, and it’s not often that I post about one DJ’s particular mix. There are so many different genres that it’s hard to just classify it with a blanket term. From DJ Deeon’s swagged out 3 Fine Hoes to Jamie’s own Far Nearer, this mix goes full circle. You can check it out on SoundCloud right here.
To celebrate the release of the Jamie xx EM, I’m going to share with you a double-side released earlier this summer. Far Nearer and Beat For have been well-received since their release in June, chopping charts all over the blogosphere and flowing out of the speakers of hipsters and beatheads alike. The former is lighter, and the latter is darker. I think you’ll dig ‘em.
