Fresh off the American leg of Claude VonStroke’s Urban Animal tour, J.Phlip is back with another fantastic release. If you’ve yet to familiarize yourself with Jessica Phillippe’s “booty-tech” productions and incredible sets, Say My Name might be just the track to get you hooked.
Though she has often been described as the label’s secret weapon, the girl from Illinois is quickly securing her place atop dirtybird’s roster alongside the label’s original players. Chopped-up vocals and a deep bass are laced with acid, resulting in an artful blend of gritty acid techno and that classic dirtybird ghetto house we all know and love.
San Francisco-based up-and-comer Aidan Chambers joins J.Phlip for the remix, which intensifies the acid undertones of the original and maintains the appropriate level of dirtybird funk. If you’ve drunk enough of the dirtybird Kool-Aid and are ready to pick up a copy of Say My Name, the original and the remix are available via The Birdhouse on Jan. 17 and via Beatport Jan. 20.
