It’s hard to keep in mind that not all dancefloor drops have to be hard-hitting, blood-surging gutbusters; sometimes it feels good to dance to a comparably tame yet equally as mastered groove. Remix Artist Collective, RAC for short, provides just those kind of tunes. When you’ve got a team that’s collectively worked for Ra Ra Riot, Penguin Prison, and Death Cab for Cutie, it’s easy to assume that what they can produce will be certified gold; and you’d assume correctly. The trio’s latest drop, VOL 2, is a masterpiece compilation that includes remixes of some of the biggest names in the indie scene of late, and is available for free on their website.
Their fabulous remix of Phantogram’s When I’m Small instantly redefines the correct way to chill out. It completely strips the heavy rock feel, replaces it with a progressive minimal beat, and transforms the song into what sounds like an enlightened version of itself. And if you’re looking to shake your groove thing in front of the mirror, their mix of Phoenix’s Armistice is sure to get you ready and pumped for a night out on the town.
