Icarus Fly is the brainchild of Frederik Mooij (pictured) and Daniel Cantisani. Together and apart they’ve already enjoyed numerous top 20 releases on Beatport’s electro charts and it’s easy to see why. The duo hail from Monterrey, Mexico, where Mooij runs his label Loudroom Recordings, and where we are told the scene is still in its infancy.
As the song titles reveal, the first two tracks are playfully disco-oriented. Disco Demolition Night is fresh; the fast-fingered synth work is avant-garde yet still akin to Daft Punk’s throwback days. Discodelic is full of life with sharp disco chords that stab with funk ferocity reminiscent of the animated and delightful style DJ Dan plays out. Love is a wobbly and of course loved-up tune. The soft pads and tweaked arpeggios lay over the brilliant vocals of female singer Cassey Jaxx. It’s this combination of bass-driven electro, progressive house sensibility and finely manicured synths that define the unique sound of both Mooij and Canti.
As for what’s in store for the guys of Icarus Fly, Frederik Mooij has an upcoming collaboration with Adam K entitled Bongorock, with a second track already completed and a third in the works to be released on Adam K’s Hotbox Digital label. Pick up all of Icarus Fly’s releases here.
