Near the beginning of this website’s life, I briefly introduced you all to a set of very promising nascent producers – Zeds Dead. The unsigned Canadians crank out simply monster tracks. That’s pretty much all you need to know, because after you listen you’ll wonder why such talent isn’t licensed to make money. Zeds Dead’s music is at once extremely raw and melodic, a harmony less easily achieved in dubstep than in trance or drum n’ bass.
Though released in 2009, the Eyes on Fire remix is the pièce de résistance of their work up to date. Right from the start, as the lonely guitar and vocals reluctantly march into a steady rhythm, you know it’s a winner. Thumping, wailing and buzzing all over, it’s a shameless celebration of slow beats. While it does lack the supreme polish of English counterparts like Nero (another absolute killer), Zeds Dead has a distinct musicality that sets it apart from anything out there right now. Give these Canadians a chance; you won’t regret it.
