It’s no secret that moombahton has already proven itself in the arena of dance music as one of the hardest-hitting and nasty arsenals a DJ can unleash in a given night. Porter Robinson, Munchi, and friends have been stringing up a series of grindy moombahcore destroyers, and some of us are lucky to have experienced the dancefloor baptism firsthand. What’s the next step? More melodic moombah, of course.
Leave it up to none other than devoted LA moombahton producer Dillon Francis to push the edges when it comes to the rapidly burgeoning genre. The two-track EP I.D.G.A.F.O.S. (I’ll leave it to you to unwind that acronym) is all about upbeat, danceable grooves, and the title track just happens to be one-hundred percent moombah destroyer. The melodic playfulness is definitely influenced by complextro, as well as the bass-warping drop. Beautician 2.0 is so melodic that I’d almost call it SHM-esque, if that’s even possible for the genre. Check out his remix of Chase & Status’ Hitz for another approximation of moombah’s pure destructive potential. I’m sold already, but if you need more convincing, here it is.
