HWLS (Ta-Ku & Kit Pop) Enlist Noah Breakfast For ‘004’
HWLS feat. Noah Breakfast - 004 (Original Mix)

Fans of Australia’s burgeoning bass scene: don’t sleep on HWLS, the duo of Ta-Ku (pictured, right) and Kit Pop (left). The guys have only shared a handful of tracks under this moniker to date, so there’s still time for you get in on the “I knew ‘em before they were big” ground floor–and their latest tune, 004, is arguably their best yet.

Each HWLS beat we’ve heard so far has explored the crossroads of moods and rhythms of various bass-heavy genres, and each feels wholly unique thanks in no small part to a third rotating guest contributor. This time around the guys recruit Noah Breakfast, who steers them in the direction of shimmering, syncopated synth-play that brings to mind the work of Rustie, SBTRKT and the like.

HWLS promised an EP on the way when they dropped their last effort, the ESTA-aided 003. There’s no update this time around, so we’ll just have to bide our time and let the guys work their magic.
