If you know a thing or two about experimental hip hop, then you’re more than familiar with Hudson Mohawke. The beat prodigy recently announced that he will be releasing a long-awaited EP on the legendary Warp Records. He last released Butter in 2009, a critically acclaimed debut album that was praised by critics and beat nerds alike as one of the best albums of the year. Since then, Hudson Mohawke has been very low-key about his releases. That is, until now.
He’s given us just a small tease of what’s to come on his new EP, Satin Panthers, due out in early August. The EP is expected to be only 5 tracks long, but is sure to be a treat for fans that have long awaited HudMo’s return. The first track is available for download if you preorder the EP. The song is called Thunder Bay, and boasts a collecton of glistening, big room synthesizer and hip, upbeat vocal slices. If this track is any indicator of what the rest of the EP will be like, then we’re sure to be in for a treat. You can check it out in the YouTube video below. For now, I’ll leave you with a HudMo classic from his last album, ZOo00OOm. Stay tuned for my review of the EP in August!
