Ollie O’neil is better known by his production guise Hucci, and Hucci is known to trap fans as the best thing since sliced bread. The 18 year-old Brighton producer has recently released a monstrous trap tune called The Leaves Are Brown, with collaborator GameFace, and it’s creating earthquakes from the UK to the US. Since his lengthy debut EP Novacane hit the internet late last year, Hucci has been turning heads of some of the scene’s biggest names including Diplo, Flosstradamus, and B. Traits, to name a few. His recent mix on MistaJam’s BBC Radio 1xtra show will likely be scoring him even more praise as he ascends to the top of the trap scene.
The Leaves Are Brown features an unmistakable sample of The Mamas and the Papas’ iconic California Dreamin’; a folk rock song from 1965 also sampled by Minnesota and Benny Benassi. Hucci and Gameface took the sample, chopped it up, twisted it, and trampled it into obscurity. Of course The Leaves Are Brown has all of the required trap elements from rolling hi-hats to 808-styled bass thuds–perfect for head-nodding madness.
Fans of Hucci’s low-slung, grimey production style should also check out his previous tunes YEAAH! and Phoenix. Keep an eye out for this young producer from Brighton–he’s sure to be making waves in the future.
