Nicky Romero has to be one the world’s most valuable house producers. He may not have millions of Facebook likes (yet), but he’s rapidly becoming one of the industry’s most consistent artists. He’s been making hits all year like Camorra, Beta with Hardwell, and his massive remix of Flash by Green Velvet that earned the #2 spot on our Top 15 House Tracks of 2011 chart. This December, he’s released a new club banger named Toulouse, which currently sits at #5 on the Beatport Top 10. Nicky implemented a strong contrast of styles in this track, with some uplifting piano melodies going up against some seriously foul bass drops.
When you want a hit remix, Nicky’s the right man to talk to. He’s made quite an impression with many in the industry, including #1 DJ David Guetta, who named him the year’s breakthrough DJ/producer of 2011 in his DJMag interview. Also taking a liking to the Dutch producer is Tom Holkenborg aka Junkie XL, who had Nicky remix a tune from his upcoming album called Molly’s E. The resulting creation kept the pristine breakdown, but worked in a much darker and techier build. One of my personal favorites is his track My Friend, the breakdown of which samples the funky 2001 classic by Groove Armada.
