About a year ago, I posted about those Delta Heavy guys over at RAM Records and their excellent Space Time EP. Simply put, the tracks were absolute drum’n’bass monsters, combining cosmic soundscapes, tight production, and reality-distorting basslines into some of the most potent munitions you can drop on a dancefloor. Now they’re back with another dose of the goods.
Space Time was pure drum’n’bass, but now Delta Heavy has gone completely drumstep on us. Overkill will tease your senses with an easy intro reminiscent of the intros of Skrillex. However, the drop reveals that Delta Heavy is still their insane selves; get ready to get smashed by a massive double assault of drum and step.
B-side Hold Me utilizes the same melodic charm, but opts to stay in grinding dubstep mode for most of its duration. The variety within Overkill really does it for me, but these two tracks together are likely to kill in any scenario. There’s a style and tempo change of sorts in Hold Me as well; it’s something that new stars like these guys and Zomboy do like a champ, and other producers ought to follow suit. Keep your eye on RAM Records for more from this ridiculous talent.
